Last year, Topps decided to have a contest. A contest where the winner could go to a Spring Training camp of a team of their choice and/or win a set of their 2014 cards. The set of cards are stamped with a ‘1st Edition’ on them and they’re limited to only 10 sets. A winner of one of the sets has decided to break up the set and sell it. I bought all three cards that feature Jay Bruce on them.
First one is the Base Card
The Second one is the 2013 NL Home Run Leaders card shared with Paul Goldschmidt & Pedro Alvarez
The Third one didnt arrive with the first two, I do know it’s on it’s way though (according to tracking info)
I’ll update this post when the Third one arrives!
2013 Topps Supreme was originally released in Asian markets, but few buyers led to Topps releasing them to the USA. They wasnt cheap but they were nice. Most PC collectors found the dealer price tags to be too high, so dealers had to clearance them out to break even on their cost. Their loss is my gain. This really nice booklet card has Jay Bruce with Brandon Phillips. Has gold foil sticker autographs (they look really really nice for stickers) and two swatches with game/event worn material in it.
Add an Ultra One Touch Booklet holder and you have one great looking booklet card!
I loved the 2014 Topps Heritage set that basically copied the 1965 Topps release. Something about the ’65 set that just says vintage! Topps made some insert card with U.S. coins that were minted in 1965, and one of them was Jay Bruce. There were only 10 of these made and I’m glad I have 04/10 in my collection. There is one with a quarter as well but I have never seen one on eBay or at any shows I’ve been to in the past 8 months or so. Probably sitting in a pack somewhere on a shelf in a card shop or warehouse to never see the light of day.
Love this card and keeping a look out for the one with the quarter. If you have seen one or know where one is, I may pay a finders fee. Comment here and I’ll be in touch with you.
I have aquired this Topps Simply Supreme Jay Bruce 1 of 1 card from eBay. It didnt break the bank because of his 2014 performance. I have faith in him that he’ll be back to his normal self in 2015.
Not the best pic of the card but it’s all I have for now. Nice pic at spring training in AZ. Great signature on the gold foil to make the signature stand out.
I’m happy with it.
Its’ been a while since I’ve posted a new custom card of Jay Bruce. Sure, I’ve been collecting his cards as new ones come out and picking up some older cards because, lets face it, last year, he stunk and that has made the prices of his cards plummet!
Why make a 1954 Topps style custom? Because it’s one I havent made yet. I thought I made one of all the years in the 50’s but guess I over looked 1954.
I found some new plug-ins for photoshop and I’m starting to learn how to use them. They take a lot of trial and error out of photoshop use.
I’ll post some pics of the new Jay Bruce cards that I’ve picked up over the last few months within the next few days.
Jay Bruce robbed Matt Adams of the Cardinals of a home run. Also he kept a fan from getting a souveneir.
Got some down time during the Labor Day weekend.
***Soapbox Time*** Just remember, Labor Day isn’t a holiday that was given to you. The AFL-CIO fought hard for this holiday and was fought tooth and nail by corporate America for years and they still are trying to repeal it! *** END OF SOAPBOX ***
Since our 2014 Reds just seems to have blown their season, I’m going to step back in time and make some custom Reds cards of players from the Big Red Machine. I usually blow by those type of designs and cards of the BRM because everyone makes them and it’s been done over and over again. So, since our current team doesnt seem to know how to win, I’ll be just like everyone else and reminisce to the days of the BRM.
I started to kinda copy an online tutorial for making vintage cards, but I didnt want to have to edit every single pic, so I made some adjustments and here are the final results:
Let’s start with the mastermind of the BRM: Sparky Anderson
And the stars of the team:
I know thats not the whole BRM but I started to get bored a little. So I tweaked the design and added Barry Larkin, Eric Davis & Chris Sabo.
And then, I went back to the orginal design and made one of ‘The Mick’.
And then one of Cal Ripken, Jr.
I’ll update again later with the rest of the BRM. Let me know if you like ’em or not!
